THE WORK BEHIND THE FINISH

A GREAT FINISHED FLOOR
STARTS WITH PREPARATION

Cleaning, moisture checks, surface preparation, and crack repairs come before the coating. Here’s the work that goes into your finished garage floor.

STEP 1

Clear & Inspect the Area

Clear vehicles, storage items, and debris from the garage. Inspect the concrete and existing coatings, and check for moisture before deciding how the floor should be prepared. Moisture concerns must be resolved before coating.

STEP 2

Clean & Degrease

Remove loose dust and dirt, then scrub oil and grease with a suitable concrete cleaner. Rinse thoroughly, remove excess water, and allow the slab to dry before the next stage.

STEP 3

Etch or Grind the Concrete

Prepare the concrete using the method suited to the floor and coating system. Grinding or etching creates the surface profile needed for adhesion. Clean away residue and let the floor dry as required.

STEP 4

Repair Cracks & Pits

Prepare cracks and damaged areas, fill them with a compatible repair compound, and allow repairs to cure. Smooth high spots and protect wall edges and doorways before coating.

STEP 5

Apply the Base & Decorative Flakes

Apply a compatible primer where needed. Mix the two-part epoxy according to the manufacturer’s instructions, coat the edges, and spread the base evenly. Broadcast decorative flakes into the wet coating.

STEP 6

Apply the Clear Topcoat

After the base has cured as required, remove loose or upright flakes and vacuum the surface. Apply a compatible clear topcoat to seal the flakes and complete the finish.

STEP 7

Cure & Return to Service

We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before walking on the new floor. Allow a full seven days for curing before moving heavy items back into the garage or parking vehicles. We also explain how to care for the finished surface.

We confirm the preparation, coating system, and curing schedule for your floor before work begins.

COMMON QUESTIONS

GOOD TO KNOW

Can you coat a garage floor that has cracks or stains?
Send clear photos of the affected areas. We’ll review the concrete and confirm the preparation and repair work before recommending the coating scope.
What is included in the decorative flake finish?
There are many decorative flake colors and combinations to choose from, so you can get the finished look you want. We’ll discuss your options as part of the project review. The finish includes a two-part epoxy base, decorative flakes, and a clear topcoat over the prepared concrete.
What if my floor already has a coating?
Let us know and include photos. An existing coating may need to be ground down or removed so the primer and new epoxy have a properly prepared surface to grip and bond to. We’ll review its condition before confirming the preparation required.
How soon can I use my garage again?
We recommend waiting at least 24 hours before walking on the new surface. Allow a full seven days for curing before moving heavy items back into the garage or parking vehicles on the floor.
What should I send with my request?
Send your address, approximate garage size, and photos showing the full floor, cracks, stains, and any existing coating. Tell us if the garage contains items that will need to be moved.
